The former principal dancer of the Frankfurt Ballet, Tony Rizzi is giving William Forthyse's repertry workshop.

yTeacherzTONY RIZZI

Born in 1965 he is originally from Dedham, Massachusettes with Italian roots.He trained for four years at the Boston Ballet School , with Bruce Wells and Violette Verdy and then joined the world famous and ground breaking Frankfurt Ballet under the direction of William Forsythe. From 1985-2005 he was principal Dancer , Choreographic Assistant and Artistic Advisor at the Frankfurt Ballet.

He danced and acted in most of the main roles and helped to create many of them, including Kammer/Kammer(which was voted performance of the year at Ballet Internationals yearly critics survey) Herman Schmerman, Eidos/Telos, As a garden in this setting, Steptext, Wolff Phrase, Of Any If And, Isabelles Dance and Impressing the Czar.He also co choreographed Firstext with Forsythe for the famed french ballerina Sylvie Guillem at the Royal Ballet in London.In 1993 Rizzi began his long term collaboration with the Belgian visual and performing artist, Jan Fabre ,beginning with THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING , created for the Frankfurt Ballet in 1990.He has been a main protagonist in many of his works, notably as the role of The Devil in "Da un Altra Faccio del Tempo" and Mae West in "Glowing Icons" . Most recently Fabre created a solo theater and dance monologue for Mr Rizzi called "DRUGS KEPT ME ALIVE" which is beginning a world tour.He worked as a dancer and performer for Robert Wilson in the 2011-2012 production of "The Life and Death of Marina Abromovic" starring Willem Defoe and Marina Abromovic , where he played the role of a young Abromvoic. He was nominatated as Best Dancer in Germany two years in a row, 1997 and 1998., in Ballet Internationals yearly annual critics survey.
He started to choreograph at the age of 23 with "Cockroach Nightmare", voted one of the ten best dance events of that year in Boston. in 1990 he won third prize at the Boston International Ballet International Choreographers Competition with "Planned Fun."

Since then he has invited to create work on many companies including Bayerishce Staatsballet, Munich Dance Theater, Pennsylvania Ballet, Scapino Ballet and the Royal Ballet of London to name a few.His piece JUDY WAS ANGRY was nominated for best young choreographer and most innovative new work, in Ballet Internationals yearly annual critics survey.TONY RIZZI AND THE BAD HABITS, is the name of his own company that has toured internationally with various works notable, SNOWMAN SINKING , a work that he created for himself and his own mother. This piece has toured all over Europe and Canada.
He has been teaching dance since the age of 23 when he was invited by Bruce Marks at the Boston Ballet to teach company class.

He has taught intensively at The Frankfurt Ballet, Munich Dance Theater, Bayerisch Staatsballet Munich ( Munich Ballet), Pennsylvania Ballet, Ballet Kiel, Nacho Duatos company in Madrid, Pina Bausch Wuppertal Tanztheater, Star Dancers Ballet in Tokyo, La Scala Ballet in London to name a few. He also teaches each summer at the Impulstanz Festival in Vienna and various workshops in Japan, Sweden, Athens and Boston.
